I was so excited when I finally made the decision to leave the non-profit world to pursue my passion for teaching and complete a Master's and Credential program. Now, I am stuck having jump yet another hurdle before CA deems me qualified to teach in a classroom as a district employee. I have years of experience working with children, creating curriculum, teaching in traditional and non-traditional settings and left a very lucrative job to work towards my degree program. Add to that the burden of income loss (my choice) to student teach and now I have to pay more money to prove myself yet again. Please pass AB672 so that I can get into the classroom and serve in the communities that deserve passionate and caring educators for their children.

I have worked in state prison as a teacher for almost 2 years now. I have my preliminary credential and a masters. I have been completing my induction program these past two years to “clear” me credential and STILL won’t be able to clear it until I pass my TPA Cycle 2. I completed cycle 1 during my credential program and was almost complete with cycle 2, when Covid hit. I then got my full time position in A correctional facility where technology is very limited. TPA cycle 2 is all about assessing students and implementing technology. I was told I’m a workshop that I might have to fail that component if I can’t come up with something. This is a ridiculous requirement and the TPA’s are not an accurate representation of what a teacher is capable of in the classroom. I’d rather have a year of observations than pay to jump through these hoops that require us to use specific jargon and templates created for pedagogy rather than andragogy.
