PRIVACY POLICY

FastDemocracy values your privacy and trust. This Policy explains how we use, handle, and protect information collected through our website. It applies to our collection, use, storage, and transfer of information associated with FastDemocracy’s site, https://fastdemocracy.com/ (the “Site”).

In this Policy, “Personal Information” means data that identifies an individual, or can do so in combination with other data.  Personal Information is typically your name in combination with another identifier, such as date of birth, postal address, email address, telephone number, or government ID number. The statutory definition of Personal Information varies from one jurisdiction to another.

Personal Information does not include anonymous or aggregated data that can no longer be used to identify a specific person, even if combined with other data.

Information We Collect

Collection of Your Personal Information

We collect Personal Information directly from you pursuant to our legitimate interest in providing you with our services. When you create an account on our Site and sign up for our services, we collect your name, state, home town, zip code, email address, account username and in some instances, the name of your company or advocacy group.

Use of Your Personal Information

We use your Personal Information for our legitimate interests in providing you our services, administering your account, confirming your identity, responding to your requests, personalizing your content, improving the operation of our Site, preventing fraud or other illegal activity, and analyzing how you use our Site.

We may also use your Personal Information to communicate with you about products and services we believe you might find of interest and to administer promotions in which you might participate.

Our employees and agents may view your Personal Information to perform their jobs and service your needs. We authorize access to your Personal Information to them on a need-to-know basis to provide you with our products or services to you, or for one of the other reasons listed in this section.

We will not sell your Personal Information to any third party.

We will not disclose your Personal Information unless we believe in good faith that the disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to enforce or Terms of Use or this Privacy Policy, to address fraud, security or technical issues, or to allow one of our business partners help us operate the Site or assess your satisfaction with us, the Site or our services.

We prohibit the business partners with whom we share your Personal Information from using that information for any other reason.

If through sale, divestiture or otherwise, another organization acquires FastDemocracy or our assets, we may sell, transfer and/or disclose your Personal Information to the acquirer, who will then possess it and assume our rights and obligations under this Privacy Policy.

Data Movement

We may maintain your Personal Information on computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ than those from your jurisdiction.

We process data, including Personal Information, in the United States.  We do not transfer your Personal Information to another organization or a country absent the existence of adequate security and privacy controls.  We transfer Personal Information to the United States only with your consent or to perform a contract with you, and consistent with the practices described in this Privacy Notice. We do not collect or store sensitive information about you.

Other Information We Collect

We automatically gather other information when you browse or view our Site, including your

Internet Protocol (IP) address, browser type and language, browser version, Internet service provider (ISP), referring and exit websites and applications, operating system, date/time stamp, the number of clicks on the Site and its components, whether you are a first-time or a returning user, links you clicked on while on the Site, and your flow and navigation path through the Site during your visit.

We use this information to make sure that the Site functions properly, to improve the Site and to learn more about how our customers use our Site.

In some of our email messages, you may find a “click-through URL” linked to content on our Site.  We track this click-through data to help us determine your interest in particular topics and measure the effectiveness of our member communications. If you prefer not to be tracked in this way, you should not click such links in our email messages.

Geo-Location Data

You may give consent for our Site to capture and record certain precise geo-location or global positioning data from your device in order to tailor information to your location. We may link such location data to other information that you provide to us or that may be accessed in connection with your use of our Site. We will seek your consent before capturing this location data.  You should be able to manage how your mobile device and mobile browser share location information with us, as well as how your mobile browser handles cookies and related technologies, by adjusting your mobile device’s privacy and security settings.

 

Cookies

We use technologies such as “cookies” so we can remember certain information about you, remember your preferences or recognize you when you return.  They also help us compile aggregate data about Site traffic and Site interaction so that we can improve our Site and protect our Site from fraud.

A cookie is a text file that stored on your computer.  As text files, cookies cannot read information on your hard drive, run programs or deliver viruses to your computer.

Most browsers are set to accept cookies automatically. You can set your browser to decline all cookies automatically or to prompt you for a response each time a cookie is offered. If you decline cookies, you may find that you cannot access or use some or all of our Site’s features.

We also use log files when you visit our Site. Log files track IP addresses, browser type, browser version, Internet Service Provider (ISP) identity, referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks.

We utilize this information in our legitimate interest in administering the Site, preventing fraud, tracking website navigation in the aggregate, and gathering broad demographic information for aggregate use.

California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you may have certain rights with respect to your personal information including the following rights:

  • the right to know, by way of our Privacy Policy and any specific inquiries you direct to us, where personal information we have about you comes from, what we use that information for, whether it is being disclosed or sole, and to whom it is being disclosed or sold;
  • the right to “opt-out” of FastDemocracy’s sale of your personal information to any third parties;
  • the right, with some exceptions, to have your personal information deleted from Tank Connection’s possession or control; and
  • the right to receive equal service and pricing from Tank Connection even if you exercise any of your privacy rights.

In addition, you may have the right to request and receive certain information about a company’s disclosure of your personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing use, and your choices with respect to such disclosures.  Our Site does not authorize the collection of personal information by third parties except as provided in this Privacy Policy.

If you have any questions or concerns about your California privacy rights, our Privacy Policy, or our use of your Personal Information, you may direct your inquiries to us through the contact information below.  For all California residents, we will respond to such inquiries within forty-five (45) days and at no cost to you.

If you are a California resident under the age of 18, and a registered user of any Site where this policy is posted, California Business and Professions Code Section 22581 permits you to request and obtain removal of content or information you have publicly posted. To make such a request, please send an email with a detailed description of the specific content or information to team@fastdemocracy.com. Please be aware that such a request does guarantee removal of all the content you have posted, and there may be circumstances in which the law does not require or allow removal even if requested.

Children and Parental Consent

Our Site is not directed to children under age 13, and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13. Children under 13 should not provide their Personal Information to us through our Site or in writing. If we learn that Personal Information belonging to anyone under the age of 13 is stored on the Site, we will immediately delete such information and refrain from using it for any purpose.

Although our Site does not target children over 13, they may register with our site.  Upon receipt of such a request to register, we will ask the child to provide a parent or guardian’s email so we can request consent.  In the email we will explain what information we are collecting, how we plan to use it, how the parent can provide consent, and how the parent can revoke consent.

If we do not receive parental consent within a reasonable time, we will delete the parent’s contact information and any other information collected from the child.  We will not use these parent emails to market to the parent, unless the parent has expressly opted in to email marketing or has separately participated in an activity that allows for such email contact.

Upon receipt of parent approval, we may ask the child to provide certain information for notification and security purposes, including a parent or guardian’s email address, the child’s first name and gender, the child’s member or account username, and password.  Children should not provide any personal information in their usernames.

Certain features of our Site cannot function without us first having received Personal Information. As a result, children over 13 may not be able to access certain features if required Personal Information has not been requested or provided.  For example, we will not collect or employ geo-location features without express consent from a parent or guardian.

For school-based activities, teacher and/or school administrators can act in place of a parent or guardian to consent to collection of personal information from children. Schools should always notify parents about these activities. When using the Site, you may click on or be directed to third party websites beyond our control.  Each third party site may have a privacy policy different from ours.  Please review them.  We are not responsible for any actions or policies of such third parties.

You may login to your account using Facebook.  If you do so, your sharing of information on Facebook is governed by your privacy selections on Facebook.

We have a presence on social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.  If you follow, post content or participate in our social media pages or sites, the information you share will be governed by your choices with the social media site in question.  As with other third party sites, please review the privacy policy of the social media site to understand the site’s use or sharing of your information.

 

Security Measures

We maintain a variety of industry-standard security measures, including physical, electronic and procedural safeguards. For instance, all data you provide us through the Site is encrypted at your browser and sent, via the internet, in an encrypted format. It is then decrypted at our server. Once we receive your personal information, it is only accessible to staff members authorized to access your account information and then, only to the extent necessary to process those transactions. No system can be completely secure, so we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your Personal Information, searches, or other communications will always remain secure.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time.  Changes and clarifications will take effect immediately upon their posting on the Site and we will change the “Last Modified” date below.
