Please oppose AB205 in order to preserve transparency, respect parental rights, and most importantly, maintain Nevada’s successful opt-in system. Since 2015, the rate of return on the permission slip that a parent must sign in order to opt-in their child to their sex-education class, has been consistent at 95%. There is no reason to bring this bill forward in order to change a system that works well. Keeping the permission slip allows parents to know exactly when content is being taught and gives parents and guardians time to preview the curriculum in advance in order to make the most informed decision they can on behalf of their children. Keeping this system is the BEST way to narrow down the amount of children who may lack parental involvement and helps administrators address those needs more directly. As you know, parents are largely frustrated with the lack of transparency, communication, failing of children to meet basic education standards and more. We need to keep the system that are currently working and change those that don't. Parents should be given every option to engage their child's education, instead of diminishing them little by little. The gap is already too wide. We can do this together. Please oppose AB205.
