We, the patients, staff, and residents of rural Colorado, urge you to vote no on any proposed cuts to Medicaid funding that would reduce reimbursement to rural hospitals, including Lincoln Health in Lincoln County.
 
Rural communities like ours are the foundation of our nation’s well-being. We produce the food, water, and energy that fuel the country every day. Just as those resources are essential to national health, our rural hospitals are essential to the health of the people who make that work possible.
 
Lincoln Health, like many Critical Access Hospitals in Colorado, provides vital services across a wide geographic region—emergency care, long-term care, outpatient services, and more. These services are often the only healthcare options for hours in any direction. Proposed cuts to Medicaid reimbursement and Medicaid program changes that would lead to more uninsured Coloradans threaten the financial stability of facilities like ours and put rural lives and livelihoods at risk.
 
The Kaiser Family Foundation estimates that the legislation would increase the uninsured population by 150,000 people in Colorado, which would serve as a significant cut to rural hospitals. Rural hospitals serve disproportionate numbers of Medicaid patients and shifts to uncompensated care would have a drastic impact, forcing them to reduce services or close altogether. That would be devastating—not just for patients, but for local economies where hospitals are often major employers and anchors of the community.
 
We respectfully ask you to protect rural healthcare by voting against any legislation that reduces Medicaid reimbursement to Critical Access Hospitals. Rural Colorado cannot thrive without strong, stable access to care.
