The Access to Credit for our Rural Economy Act, also known as ACRE, will help sustain and grow rural America by making it easier for farmers, ranchers, and rural homeowners to access low-cost credit. ACRE will lower the cost of making a loan backed by agricultural real estate, enhance competition between lenders for agricultural and rural housing loans, and help expand access to low-cost credit in rural America.

As an Ag banker in Kansas, I wanted to take time to offer my personal “thank you” for re-introducing the Access to Credit for Rural Economies (ACRE) Act – S. 838.  This piece of legislation is so important for communities across Kansas as it will help sustain and grow rural America by lowering the cost of credit for farmers and ranchers financing their agricultural real estate with their community banks, as well as helping rural homeowners seeking credit for their homes with a value of $750,000 or less in communities of 2,500 or less.

As you are well aware, there are points of stress in our rural communities including the cost of inflation that has not subsided evidenced by soaring input costs and higher than recently experienced interest rates.  As a Kansas banker, it is my desire to look for opportunities to help Kansans stay in their rural communities and thrive there.  It is my believe that the ACRE Act will help reduce interest rate pressure by reducing rates by an estimated .5% to 1.5%.  I plan to use this tax deduction to compete and make these qualified loans to my customers at a lower rate.

Once again, thank you for recognizing the value of this piece of legislation to communities across Kansas.  Let’s keep our rural areas strong an vibrant for the foreseeable future!
