AN ACT CONCERNING PROTECTION OF ELECTION ADMINISTRATION PROCESSES, ELECTIONS SITES, ELECTION WORKERS AND ELECTORS. To (1) establish prohibitions on certain conduct, including the possession of a firearm or deadly weapon, at or near certain elections-related locations, (2) impose criminal penalties for harassment of election workers and tampering with or unauthorized sharing of election equipment, and (3) allow for Attorney General involvement in matters relating to subpoenas, warrants, other requests and alleged interference with elections.

As your constituent, I am writing to ask that you vote NO on House Bill 5533 AN ACT CONCERNING PROTECTION OF ELECTION ADMINISTRATION PROCESSES, ELECTIONS SITES, ELECTION WORKERS AND ELECTORS. Section 2 of this bill includes an unnecessary prohibition against concealed carry of a firearm in a polling station. The bill is unnecessary because open carry and brandishing a weapon are already illegal in Connecticut. The bill requires law abiding citizens to leave their firearms in their cars when they go vote! In doing so, the law increases the opportunity for law-breakers to commit crimes by making every citizen at the polls a soft target. In addition, it appears that the underlying goal of the bill is to force gun owners to vote by mail, a process that is insecure and open to fraud and mischief.

At some point, the State of CT must recognize that it is increasing the likelihood of crime by criminalizing legal gun owners. This has to stop and I urge you to stop it today.

Vote NO on this bill or amend the bill to strike section 2 in its entirety.
