TELL JOHN AND TED: PROTECT VULNERABLE TEXANS

Congress is threatening access to Medicaid for 4 million Texans and millions of Americans. Tell John and Ted: PROTECT MEDICAID.

Last week, the US House passed a federal budget bill that would gut Medicaid, "defund" Planned Parenthood, and threaten millions of people's access to care. The Trump administration and their allies in US Congress will do anything to attack vulnerable Americans and shut down Planned Parenthood, no matter how many people lose health care and even lives. As Texans, we know exactly how dire the situation can get when access to critical care is abruptly cut off. These politicians are willing to sacrifice patients to give tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations. The fight isn't over though: this bill still has to pass through the Senate.

Senator Cornyn has even previously acknowledged the critical role Medicaid plays for over 4 million Texans. In 2023, 48.8% of mothers were on Medicaid when they gave birth and the majority of Medicaid recipients are children. Gutting Medicaid will force health care providers to shut down and leaves patients with nowhere to go.

Across the country, millions of people rely on Planned Parenthood for birth control, life-saving cancer screenings, STI testing and treatment, and more. The majority of Planned Parenthood health center patients — especially women, people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, and people with low incomes, and people in rural areas — rely on publicly funded programs to get quality sexual and reproductive health care. Cuts to Medicaid don't just affect Medicaid patients: this bill will reduce the quality and accessibility of healthcare nationwide. The proposed cuts to Medicaid could result in 1 in 3 Planned Parenthood health centers closing nationally, leaving millions across the country without their trusted neighborhood provider.

Planned Parenthood health centers closing also means that abortion-seekers, especially those in states with total abortion bans, will have to travel even further and face more delays in care.

Tell John and Ted: we must protect vulnerable Texans and our neighbors nationwide.
