Senate Bill 548- Protect Whistleblower LEOs from Retaliation.

Police officers have an ethical and legal obligation to report law violations and misconduct. Officers who fail to act can be held accountable at work, in the courts, and before the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Division.    Those reporting misconduct should not worry about retaliation from their agency. The truth is that agencies do not always appreciate officers bringing issues forward. These officers should be protected because they are critical in exposing wrongdoing, ensuring accountability, and upholding justice. There are no current state protections for local law enforcement officers. Local governments are not required to protect criminal justice officers reporting misconduct, which can ruin careers and create an environment where corruption can thrive.   Senate Bill 548 gives criminal justice officers the protections they need to fulfill their oaths of office while maintaining public trust and accountability. Please contact your local legislator and let them know you support SB548. You can do this by completing the following steps, and they will automatically get your request.
