Colorado’s hospitals and health systems are committed to ensuring patients have access to high-quality and affordable health care. But they face significant challenges in providing these vital services.

I have witnessed how hospitals are providing the care my community needs. Medicaid is a vital source of funding that allows us to support the health of our families, friends and neighbors. Medicaid covers:  
- 1 in 4 Coloradans 
- More than 705,000 emergency department visits, 279,000 behavioral health visits, 18,000 births, 370,000 preventive services visits, and 2 million outpatient visits 
- Nearly half of all Colorado children 
- Many working adults in low-wage jobs that do not offer affordable health insurance coverage

Changes to critical Medicaid financing mechanisms like Colorado's Hospital Provider Fee could jeopardize coverage or jeopardize the stability of the safety net. 70% of Colorado hospitals are operating without a sustainable margin, and proposals that restrict funding or restrict state flexibility could deepen existing financial distress and limit the ability of hospitals to meet community needs.
