The House Children and Family Law Committee will be voting on House Bill 10, a so-called parental rights bill, on March 4th. While the committee published an amendment that removed the criminal penalties stipulated in the original bill, it still left
vague language about what rights parents had to direct their student’s
education and the potential discipline could arise because of running afoul
a vague or unnamed parental right. That's unworkable for schools and educators who should be focused on working with students and parents. Please contact members of the committee and tell
lawmakers we should be passing legislation that supports the relationships
between parents, students, and educators – not fracturing them with broadly
subjective language and possible educator penalties.
