America’s farmers and ranchers have been without the certainty of a new farm bill since the previous version expired in 2023. While Congress modernized and made historic investments in farm bill risk management and trade programs as part of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act of 2025, many core farm bill programs remain outdated. Farm loan limits haven’t been updated in nearly a decade and have not kept pace with inflation, making it harder for young, beginning and small farmers to access the credit they need. Conservation and working lands programs need modernized, access to new and innovative agricultural technologies needs to be enhanced and interstate commerce needs to be protected.

The House Agriculture Committee’s release of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 (H.R. 7567) represents an important step toward restoring long-term certainty by updating these and many other programs.

As the Committee prepares to markup H.R. 7567 the need for action is urgent.

Since 2017, America has lost more than 160,000 farms. Without action, farmers risk losing access to critical programs that support conservation, rural development, agricultural research, energy development and credit.

Eighty-four percent of adults believe ensuring a safe and abundant food supply should be treated as a matter of national security. The farm bill plays a critical role in delivering that security. Its impact extends beyond agriculture by strengthening our food supply, supporting nutrition access for families facing hunger, advancing conservation initiatives and fueling innovation through research and Extension programs.

Farm families need stability. Rural communities need investment. Consumers need food security.

As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, your leadership is critical. I respectfully urge you to support H.R. 7567 during full committee markup and vote to advance the bill out of committee.
