Did you know that students at Oregon in-person public charter schools receive 48 cents for every dollar that students in district-run schools receive? That's about $6,000 less per charter school student. That gap has grown significantly over the last decade.
Why does this happen? It’s baked into the law! We know the work our public charter schools do is vital, especially because they often serve students who have struggled in conventional schools. We can’t be asked to do more with less. Our schools deserve fair funding to support our students. That is why we need your support to pass House Bill 3444. This bill would ensure public charter schools are able to receive their fair share of state school fund dollars.
This year, we celebrated 25 years of Oregon’s charter schools. That means it has been 25 years of systemic inequities in this law. That is 25 years too long to wait for fair funding; now is the time to tell our elected leaders we are worth more than 48 cents on the dollar.
Act Now - Send a quick note to your state representatives and senators to tell them to support HB 3444. Let them know it’s time to fix the charter school pass-through rate and stop short changing charter schools. Please add personal details about why you picked a public charter school for your student if you wish.
Take it one step further - share this action alert with your parent community and urge them to contact their legislators and join the ORC3S Parent Alliance to become advocates for their students!
