,
I am writing to urge you to protect access to care for Coloradans by voting yes on Senate Bill (SB) 25-071. SB 25-071 increases transparency and accountability while supporting the safety net. This bill adds transparency and accountability for how 340B entities use 340B funds while maintaining its purpose – improving access to care, reducing costs, and helping keep safety net hospitals and health centers viable. Without it, patients will struggle to access the critical health services they need. SB 25-071 protects the safety net from bad actors. The legislation would stop Big Pharma’s efforts to weaken the 340B program that vulnerable hospitals and clinics rely on. Drug companies are trying to restrict the benefits to hospitals and their communities by limiting the number of pharmacies in the program to just one per hospital, limiting patient access. SB 25-071 supports Colorado’s workforce. In many Colorado communities, the local hospital is a major – if not the largest – employer in the area. By helping hospitals better care for their communities through increased access to care, the 340B program benefits the workforce. SB 25-071 favors both employers and workers by ensuring hospitals can meet the needs of their communities without costing taxpayers, increasing health insurance costs, or raising premiums. Save our safety net – vote YES on SB 25-071. What is 340B? Created by Congress more than 30 years ago, the 340B program enables health care providers to stretch scarce federal resources as far as possible to care for more patients and provide more comprehensive services in their communities. The 340B program is an essential lifeline for Colorado hospitals, nearly 90% of which operate with low or negative profit margins. It allows 68 participating Colorado hospitals to provide low-cost access to prescription drugs, health care and financial assistance programs for low-income patients, and supports important care programs like cancer screenings, substance abuse treatments, and maternal health – all without costing taxpayers a cent.
