1 AN ACT to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section,
2 designated §51-3-20, relating to authorizing Supreme Court of Appeals to pay per diem
3 compensation and expenses of certain newly appointed or elected judicial officers
4 receiving training and education prior to taking oath of office and beginning term; and
5 establishing rate of compensation.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
ARTICLE 3. COURTS IN GENERAL.
§51-3-20. Judicial officer education and training.
1 (a) The Supreme Court of Appeals may, in its discretion, pay a newly appointed or
2 elected circuit judge, family court judge, or magistrate per diem compensation and expenses for
3 attending any training and education session prior to taking the oath of office and beginning his
4 or her term.
5 (b) The Supreme Court of Appeals may compensate the judicial officers specified in
6 subsection (a) of this section up to a rate equivalent to the daily per diem rate of senior status
7 circuit judges, senior status family court judges, or senior status magistrates for each required
8 day of attendance, plus travel expenses.
