SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 14(By Senators Deeds and Plymale)[Introduced February 16, 2023] Supporting the Medal of Valor nominees recommended by the First Responders Honor Board.Whereas, The Medal of Valor is awarded to firefighters, law-enforcement officers, and emergency medical services personnel who distinguish themselves conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of their lives above and beyond the call of duty in the performance of their duties; andWhereas, The First Responders Honor Board has submitted to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Delegates the following nominees for the Legislature’s consideration: Patrolman Cassie M. Johnson of the Charleston Police Department, Trooper Eric Michael Workman of the West Virginia State Police, Corporal Marshall Bailey of the West Virginia State Police, Deputy John Westfall of the Roane County Sheriff’s Department, Firefighter James Spencer of the Charleston Fire Department, John D. Forbush of the Gassaway Volunteer Fire Department, and Deputy Thomas E. Baker of the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department; andWhereas, The Legislature is honored to support the nomination of these deserving heroes for the Medal of Valor and is eternally grateful for their service and sacrifice; therefore, be itResolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:That the Legislature hereby supports the Medal of Valor nominees recommended by the First Responders Honor Board; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Governor shall bestow the Medal of Valor upon each of the nominees upon adoption of this resolution; and, be itFurther Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Honorable James C. Justice II, Governor of the State of West Virginia.
