1 Relating to: declaration of the Economic Justice Bill of Rights.
2 Whereas, the compounding challenges of our time require resolve to uphold
3 every person's right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness and, as such, demand
4 the establishment of the Economic Justice Bill of Rights; and
5 Whereas, now is the time to close the historical disparities that have existed for
6 many disenfranchised Wisconsin communities; and
7 Whereas, this legislative body is the most diverse legislative body in Wisconsin
8 history, with unprecedented representation; and
9 Whereas, with broad support for bold and progressive policy relating to our
10 current reality, the establishment of the Economic Justice Bill of Rights is essential
11 to the fulfillment of public service; and
12 Whereas, the people of Wisconsin, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, age,
13 gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability status,
14 immigration status, and country of origin, are entitled to the freedoms expressed in
15 the Economic Justice Bill of Rights; and

1 Whereas, these Rights will set the foundation for a prosperous Wisconsin that
2 works for all; and
3 Whereas, we declare that the Economic Justice Bill of Rights includes the
4 following:
5 1. A job that provides dignity at work and pays a living wage;
6 2. Adequately funded public education and affordable, accessible child care;
7 3. A union, public or private, and collective bargaining;
8 4. Affordable, accessible, and comprehensive high-quality health care;
9 5. A clean, sustainable environment and healthy planet;
10 6. Decent, sustainable community infrastructures including safe, affordable
11 housing, transportation, and broadband;
12 7. Equitable access to capital, investments, financial institutions, and
13 retirement;
14 8. A fair, restorative, and equitable justice system;
15 9. Recreation and participation in community and civic life; and
16 10. Life, self-determination, and freedom from oppressions; now, therefore, be
17 it
18 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the time has come
19 to renew the progressive tradition of Wisconsin through the Economic Justice Bill of
20 Rights and in a 21st-century fashion.
