1 Relating to: proclaiming the month of March 2023 as American Red Cross Month
2 throughout the state of Wisconsin.
3 Whereas, for more than 100 years, the American Red Cross of Wisconsin has
4 provided aid and resources to people in the Badger State to prevent, prepare for, and
5 respond to emergencies; and
6 Whereas, the American Red Cross is a partner with the U.S. Department of
7 Homeland Security and Wisconsin Emergency Management, working to ensure that
8 the people of Wisconsin are prepared for disasters; and
9 Whereas, the Red Cross offers educational programs that promote health and
10 safety; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection,
11 processing, and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; and international
12 relief and development programs; and
13 Whereas, in fiscal year 2021-22, the American Red Cross volunteers and staff
14 responded to 856 disasters throughout the state, provided emergency assistance and

1 comfort to 4,024 people after local disasters, and distributed thousands of relief
2 items; and
3 Whereas, more than 3,648 households were made safer and thousands of people
4 learned to prevent and prepare for disasters through American Red Cross education
5 programs, which included the installation of 2,527 free smoke alarms in Wisconsin
6 homes; and
7 Whereas, 68,868 Wisconsinites are prepared to help their neighbors during a
8 crisis because they have been trained in American Red Cross lifesaving classes, such
9 as CPR, use of automated external defibrillators, first aid, water safety, and
10 lifeguarding; and
11 Whereas, the American Red Cross provided nearly 136,000 critical community
12 services to military members, veterans, families, and loved ones, including 3,385
13 service cases and 8,069 comfort and care items distributed in the state of Wisconsin;
14 and
15 Whereas, countless lives were saved because over 231,486 people donated blood
16 at 4,225 American Red Cross blood drives throughout Wisconsin; and
17 Whereas, through its network of compassionate donors, volunteers, and
18 employees, the mission of the American Red Cross continues; now, therefore, be it
19 Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin
20 Legislature does hereby proclaim the month of March 2023 as American Red Cross
21 Month throughout the state of Wisconsin to show our support for their humanitarian
22 work sharing a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here in Wisconsin and
23 around the world.
