Senators BALLWEG, CABRAL-GUEVARA, COWLES, MARKLEIN, SPREITZER and

1 Relating to: declaring March 5, 2023, to March 11, 2023, as Women in Construction
2 Week and celebrating the countless contributions of women in construction.
3 Whereas, Wisconsin's construction industry is an important stimulator of our
4 economy; and
5 Whereas, a recent Associated Builders and Contractors study found that
6 590,000 new skilled workers are needed to fill construction jobs in 2023; and
7 Whereas, jobs in the construction industry offer long-term, family-supporting
8 careers; and
9 Whereas, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 14 percent of construction
10 workers are women, an all-time high; and
11 Whereas, national Women in Construction Week highlights the incredible
12 initiatives and work of women within the construction industry; and
13 Whereas, national Women in Construction Week is observed to show our
14 appreciation to those women who have contributed to the construction industry,
15 while encouraging others to make the same commitment; and

1 Whereas, by helping to raise awareness of the available opportunities for
2 women in the construction industry, the numbers and achievements of women in the
3 construction industry can continue to grow; now, therefore, be it
4 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
5 Wisconsin Legislature join in declaring March 5, 2023, to March 11, 2023, as Women
6 in Construction Week and celebrating the countless contributions of women in
7 construction, not only those currently in the construction industry but those who
8 have paved the way.
