HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2023-4639, by Representative Couture
1 WHEREAS, As Washingtonians, we owe a debt of gratitude to all
2 members of the armed forces, but in particular, the few remaining
3 members of the greatest generation who served in World War II; and
4 WHEREAS, One of those individuals is Shelton's Burton Stoltz,
5 turning 95 years old this month; his dedication to service and
6 commitment to hard work, solidifies his status as one of the best
7 among us; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Stoltz was born near Ennis, Montana on April 11th,
9 1928; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Stoltz enlisted in the Navy in 1943, serving with
11 distinction in the Pacific campaign during World War II, earning the
12 following medals: Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, The American Theater
13 Campaign, Navy Good Conduct, and World War II Victory medal, finally
14 being honorably discharged in 1949; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Stoltz returned to his family ranch, ensuring the
16 country's food security for 25 years, subsequently moving to
17 Washington State and pursuing a career as the entrepreneur of a
18 mechanic's shop for five years, eventually to be employed and retire
19 from Lang's Manufacturing in Redmond, Washington after 15 years of
20 service. He then continued his career at Pioneer Elementary in
21 Shelton, Washington, where he ensured proper maintenance and
22 sanitation for school children for an additional 20 years into his
23 80s; and

1 WHEREAS, Burton Stoltz retired for a second time and spent eight
2 years in the Pioneer Elementary school reading to children, helping
3 inspire the next generation;
4 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives
5 express its thanks and deepest appreciation to Mr. Burton Stoltz for
6 his life of dedication and service as a World War II veteran, and an
7 honorable Washingtonian and American; and
8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be
9 immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of
10 Representatives to Burton Stoltz, and his daughter, Susan Wichers.
