1 WHEREAS, Many Washington citizens have literally given the gift
2 of life by donating organs, eyes, and tissues; and
3 WHEREAS, It is essential that all citizens are aware of the
4 opportunity to save and heal the lives of others through organ, eye,
5 and tissue donation and transplantation; and
6 WHEREAS, There are nearly one hundred six thousand courageous
7 Americans awaiting a life-saving organ transplant, with twenty-two
8 individuals losing their lives every day because of the shortage of
9 organs for transplant; and
10 WHEREAS, Every ten minutes, a person is added to the national
11 organ transplant waiting list; and
12 WHEREAS, One organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people
13 and heal many more through cornea and tissue donation; and
14 WHEREAS, Families receive comfort through the grieving process
15 with the knowledge that through organ, eye, and tissue donation,
16 another person's life has been saved or healed; and
17 WHEREAS, Organ donation offers transplant recipients a second
18 chance at life, enabling them to be with their families and maintain
19 a higher quality of life; and
20 WHEREAS, The families of organ, eye, and tissue donors receive
21 gratitude from grateful recipients whose lives have been saved by
22 transplantation; and

1 WHEREAS, The example set by those who choose to donate reflects
2 the character and compassion of these individuals, whose voluntary
3 choice saves the lives of others; and
4 WHEREAS, April is the month designated by organ donation
5 organizations across the country to strive to make life possible by
6 educating and motivating individuals to register their decision to be
7 an organ, eye, and tissue donor;
8 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House
9 of Representatives honor April as National Donate Life Month to
10 remember those who have donated and celebrate the lives of the
11 recipients.
