5 Statement of purpose of bill as introduced: This bill proposes to increase the
6 fee for a marriage license to $75.00 and direct $15.00 of the fee to be retained
7 by the town clerk and the remaining $60.00 to the Domestic and Sexual
8 Violence Special Fund.
9 An act relating to marriage license fees
10 It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
11 Sec. 1. 32 V.S.A. § 1712 is amended to read:
12 § 1712. TOWN CLERKS
13 Town clerks shall receive the following fees for issuing marriage licenses
14 and vital event certificates:
15 (1) For issuing and recording a civil marriage license, $60.00 $75.00 to
16 be paid by the applicant, $10.00 $15.00 of which sum shall be retained by the
17 town clerk as a fee, $35.00 and $60.00 of which shall be deposited in the
18 Domestic and Sexual Violence Special Fund created by 13 V.S.A. § 5360, and
19 $15.00 of which sum shall be paid by the town clerk to the State Treasurer in a
20 return filed quarterly upon forms furnished by the State Treasurer and VT LEG #368100 v.1

1 specifying all fees received by him or her during the quarter. Such quarterly
2 period shall be as of the first day of January, April, July, and October.

4 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
5 This act shall take effect on July 1, 2023.
