House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2024 Hartford High School Hurricanes Division II
championship boys’ indoor track and field team Offered by: Representatives Christie of Hartford and Cole of Hartford Offered by: Senators Clarkson, McCormack, and White Whereas, at the 2024 State track and field championships, held at the University of Vermont’s athletic facilities, Hartford was clearly the powerhouse boys’ team in Division II, and Whereas, top Hurricane individual placements were as follows: in the 300-meter race: first (37.66) and second; and in the 600-meter race: first (1:28.08), and Whereas, the Hartford relay teams sped through the four segments to capture the best time in the 4x200-
meter relay (1:39.53) and in the 4x400 (3:46.95), and Whereas, a Hurricane topped the high jump competition with a height of five feet, 10.75 inches, and a Hartford competitor also won the weight throw, achieving a distance of 49 feet, 6.5 inches, and Whereas, at the conclusion of the competition, Hartford emerged victorious with a convincing 126–83 win over second-place Thetford Academy, and Whereas, the athletically fit Hurricanes were Payton Bessette, Matthew Cooney, Jordan Davis, Jack Fournier-Stephens, Gabe Guillette, Joey Knapp, Maxwell Portnoy, Deshon Sinclair, Alex Smith, Conner Beland, Brandon Driver, Solomon Flores, Hayden Hewitt, Alec Husmann, Ayodele Lowe, Liam Mangieri,
Bennett Moreno, Samuel Morris, Nolan Pichtel, Coda Scott, Matthew Tsouknakis, Hugh Wendling, Logan White, Gavin Irish, Jason Kelly, Elliot Brooks, Elijah Ofstad, Lucas Sanderson, and Xavier Theriault, and Whereas, Head Coach Mike Perry and assistant coaches Illy Sirois and Dennis Barr were delighted with the team’s impressive victory, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2024 Hartford High School Hurricanes Division II
championship boys’ indoor track and field team, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Hartford High School.
