Offered by: Representative Noyes of Wolcott Offered by: Senator Brock Whereas, Alzheimer’s disease is a degenerative brain disease and the most common form of dementia, and Whereas, between now and 2025, the number of Vermonters diagnosed with Alzheimer’s is expected to rise from 13,000 to 17,000, and Whereas, in 2020, the Vermont Medicaid cost for Alzheimer’s care was $116 million dollars, an amount projected to rise 26.4 percent by 2025, and Whereas, in 2019, there were 315 Alzheimer’s deaths in Vermont, the fifth highest per capita rate nationally, and Whereas, by 2050, the number of geriatricians that will be needed to meet the health care requirements of persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementia conditions in Vermont must rise 255.6 percent, and Whereas, nationally, 6.5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, a number projected to double by 2050, and over 11 million serve as unpaid caregivers for these individuals, and Whereas, the national financial impact of Alzheimer’s is expected to reach one trillion dollars by mid-century, and Whereas, annually, 26,000 Vermonters provide an estimated 37 million hours of
uncompensated Alzheimer’s care valued at $758 million, and Whereas, the medical, financial, and social impact of Alzheimer’s is enormous, and advocates for the Alzheimer’s community will be visiting the State House on April 27 to inform legislators of their continuing concerns, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly designates April 27, 2022 as Alzheimer’s Awareness Day at the State House, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to
the Alzheimer’s Association’s Vermont Chapter.
