H.708 (Vetoed). Municipal government; municipal charters; City of Burlington;
amendment This bill would have amended the charter of the City of Burlington to authorize the Burlington City Council to adopt an ordinance governing the eviction of
residential tenants within the City. This bill would have required the City Council to include seven enumerated bases for a “just cause” eviction, three exemptions for types of residential properties and specific contexts for eviction, and four enumerated provisions that established the scope and application of the ordinance in contexts such as notice, probational periods, unreasonable rent increases, and impacts on small landlords.
