Act No. M-5 (H.177). Municipal charters; City of Montpelier; amendments
An act relating to approval of an amendment to the charter of the City of
Montpelier
This act approves an amendment to the charter of the City of Montpelier to:
• allow any person to register to vote in Montpelier City elections who
on election day is a legal resident of the City and the United States,
provided that person otherwise meets the qualifications of 17 V.S.A.
chapter 43;
• require the City Clerk to
o maintain a separate City voter checklist composed of voters
eligible to vote in City elections; and
o prepare separate ballots for City issues and federal, State,
county, school district, or special district issues.; and
• define “legal resident of the United States” and “noncitizen voter” for
purposes of the City’s charter.
