HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
 
|
             WHEREAS, Sharla and Bart Hotchkiss received a Judge Pat |
 
|
Baskin Family Volunteer of the Year Award at the Beacon Awards |
 
|
Luncheon on September 26, 2023; and |
 
|
             WHEREAS, The Beacon Awards honor excellence in Permian Basin |
 
|
nonprofit organizations by recognizing volunteers and staff of the |
 
|
local nonprofit sector; the Judge Pat Baskin Family Volunteer of |
 
|
the Year Award is presented annually to both an adult and youth |
 
|
volunteer in the Midland County community; and |
 
|
             WHEREAS, Fitting recipients of the award, Sharla and Bart |
 
|
Hotchkiss moved to Midland in 1971, and together they began |
 
|
volunteering with their church, local schools, and myriad |
 
|
organizations ranging from the Junior League of Midland and the |
 
|
Museum of the Southwest to Hospice of Midland and the Permian Basin |
 
|
Regional Planning Commission; they both served on the Midland City |
 
|
Council, including respective tenures as mayor pro tempore, and |
 
|
they each chaired the Midland Planning and Zoning Commission; and |
 
|
             WHEREAS, Mr. Hotchkiss has further contributed to the |
 
|
community as chair of the Parks and Recreation Commission and as a |
 
|
member of the Oil and Gas Advisory Committee; meanwhile, |
 
|
Mrs.  Hotchkiss has served as executive director of Keep Midland |
 
|
Beautiful and as president of Keep Texas Beautiful, and she helped |
 
|
craft the last two city comprehensive plans and served on the Texas |
 
|
Workforce Investment Council; she has been recognized for her |
 
|
exceptional endeavors with the Lady Bird Johnson Award; and |
 
|
             WHEREAS, The couple have also played an important role in the |
 
|
Midland business community as the owners of Murray's Deli; and |
 
|
             WHEREAS, Inspiring others through their exemplary civic |
 
|
engagement, Mr. and Mrs. Hotchkiss have made a lasting, positive |
 
|
difference in their community, and they are indeed deserving of |
 
|
this most recent honor; now, therefore, be it |
 
|
             RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas, |
 
|
3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Sharla and Bart Hotchkiss |
 
|
on their receipt of a 2023 Judge Pat Baskin Family Volunteer of the |
 
|
Year Award and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; |
 
|
and, be it further |
 
|
             RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
 
|
prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
 
|
House of Representatives and Senate. |
