By Hensley AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title
33, Chapter 1, Part 3, relative to allocating mental health services throughout the state.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 33, Chapter 1, Part 3, is amended by
adding the following as a new section:
(a) The department of mental health and substance abuse services may direct available state funds to contract with additional private service providers across the state to provide inpatient psychiatric services for uninsured individuals in this state.
(b) On or before December 31, 2024, the department shall submit a report to the speaker of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives on whether additional inpatient psychiatric services are needed in the City of Knoxville, Tennessee.
The report must include recommendations on whether additional state funds should be
expended for the construction of a state-owned and -operated inpatient psychiatric facility in the City of Knoxville.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
