A RESOLUTION to honor and congratulate Janaria McIntosh on
her selection as the SOAR Technical College Faculty Member of the Year.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
specially recognize those outstanding teachers who have devoted their careers to providing the highest-quality education for Tennessee's students; and WHEREAS, Janaria McIntosh is one such estimable educator, who has distinguished herself as a professional of the greatest dedication, ability, and integrity; and WHEREAS, Ms. McIntosh has been selected by the Tennessee Board of Regents as the SOAR (Statewide Outstanding Achievement and Recognition) Technical College Faculty Member of the Year, a most befitting honor that recognizes the positive influence she has on so many lives; and WHEREAS, SOAR award winners are chosen based on teaching expertise, including diversity initiatives, innovations in teaching, experiential learning initiatives, and exemplary service to the college, community, and discipline; and WHEREAS, with more than ten years of experience in her craft, Janaria McIntosh currently serves with acumen and alacrity as a master barber instructor at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at Chattanooga, and she is a board-certified master barber in the states of Georgia and Tennessee; and WHEREAS, an extremely talented and compassionate educator who works assiduously to motivate her students to reach their full potential both as scholars and as citizens, Ms.
McIntosh received the 2022 Pay it Forward Project Community Award and the Ruby Hurley HJR0665

Award, honors that recognize her engagement in leading community projects and allowing underprivileged citizens and students access to hair and body care; and WHEREAS, additionally, she was chosen among three finalists and awarded the 2021
Faculty Member of the Year Award for the Tennessee College of Applied Technology at
Chattanooga; and WHEREAS, a devoted leader in her community, Ms. McIntosh is the CEO and founder of For the Culture By J, a nonprofit organization that provides free haircuts for the children at
Hardy Elementary School; and WHEREAS, she involves her students with live practice, providing haircuts to community members at various locations throughout Chattanooga, including The Community Kitchen,
Howard High School, and the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga; and WHEREAS, Janaria McIntosh serves as an inspiration to her colleagues and students alike, and her friendship and counsel are highly valued by those who are fortunate to know her;
and WHEREAS, Ms. McIntosh truly epitomizes the dedicated teacher who is wholly committed to the highest ideals of public service and quality education for all, and she should be
especially recognized; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED
THIRTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE
CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and congratulate Janaria McIntosh on being chosen as
the SOAR Technical College Faculty Member of the Year, commend her exceptional service,
salute her professional expertise and personal excellence, and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
