SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 786

A RESOLUTION to honor and commend Cheyenne McPherson upon placing second in the AMVETS
Americanism Contest at the state level.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should salute those Tennesseans who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as young leaders of whom we can all be proud; and WHEREAS, one such exemplary person is Cheyenne McPherson, an eighth-grade student at Grassy Fork Elementary School, who recently placed second in the AMVETS
Americanism Contest at the state level; and WHEREAS, the AMVETS National Service Foundation started its Americanism program in 1987 to encourage patriotism and good citizenship in young people across the nation; it encompasses all age groups from kindergarten to seniors in high school in local, state, and national competitions; and WHEREAS, the Americanism Contest varies tasks for their diverse participant population: kindergarten and first-grade participants color in American flags and answer simple questions, second through fifth graders design a patriotic poster with a small written description,
and sixth through twelfth graders write an essay ranging from 200 to 500 words; and WHEREAS, the victors of the state competitions receive cash prizes ranging from twenty-five to 125 dollars, and then, the first and second-place state winners are given the opportunity to compete in the national-level competition held in August; and WHEREAS, Cheyenne McPherson's noteworthy achievement is a tremendous source of
pride for her family, her school, and the good people of her community, who are deeply proud of
this remarkable young woman and her many accomplishments; and SJR0786

WHEREAS, Ms. McPherson has distinguished herself as a young Tennessean of whom we can all be proud; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and commend Cheyenne McPherson upon placing second in the AMVETS Americanism Contest at the state level and extend to her our best wishes for a happy and successful future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
