SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 772

A RESOLUTION to honor and recognize Derrick Rush Hamilton,
ranked 3rd in the Bartlett High School Class of
2023.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to pay tribute to those students who, through their natural talents and unflagging commitment to
academic excellence, have distinguished themselves in the classroom; and WHEREAS, Derrick Rush Hamilton is one such exceptional student, who was recently ranked 3rd in the 2023 graduating class at Bartlett High School; and WHEREAS, through diligent study, steady composure during examinations, and steadfast commitment of time and talent, Derrick Hamilton has achieved outstanding academic success and joined the ranks of the best and brightest students in Tennessee and our country;
and WHEREAS, in his remarkable high school career, Derrick Hamilton has earned an
exemplary 4.55 grade point average while participating in a number of extracurricular activities,
including the Bartlett High School Honors Academy, Beta Club, National Honor Society, and Mu
Alpha Theta, in which he serves as vice president; and WHEREAS, during his impressive scholastic career, he has been recognized for his noteworthy musical talent as an All-West musician since 2020, as well as section leader of the high school band and member of the Memphis Youth Symphony since 2021. He was further recognized for his skill by attending the Governor's School for the Arts during the summer of
2022; and WHEREAS, a community-oriented young man, Mr. Hamilton has volunteered with Bridge Builders and as a math tutor at Appling Middle School and his high school; and WHEREAS, his display of intellectual aptitude and ambition surely bodes well for his future success as he plans to accept his appointment to the Robertson Scholars Leadership SJR0772

Program, a collaboration between Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, in which he will be double majoring in global health and music; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hamilton's noteworthy achievement is a tremendous source of pride for his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Derrick Hamilton, his school, and his community; and WHEREAS, Derrick Hamilton's dedication to excellence is clearly deserving of the respect, admiration, and commendation of the members of this General Assembly; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby commend and honor Derrick Rush Hamilton, ranked 3rd in the Bartlett High School Class of 2023, on his impressive academic achievement and extend to him our best wishes for a happy, successful future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
