A RESOLUTION to honor and commend the members and coaches of the Halls High School boys' wrestling team upon winning the TSSAA Division I, Class
A team dual and traditional wrestling State championships.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that this General Assembly should salute those student athletes who, through their extraordinary efforts, have distinguished themselves as true champions of
whom we can all be proud; and WHEREAS, one such exemplary group of young athletes is the Halls High School boys'
wrestling team, whose members have all proven themselves to be the fiercest of competitors and truly worthy of admiration by winning the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association
(TSSAA) Division I, Class A team dual and traditional wrestling State championships; and WHEREAS, finishing their historic season with a record of 32-3, the young men from Halls High School captured the program's first State wrestling championships while collecting Region 2 team dual and traditional titles as well as Sectional 1 team dual and traditional championships on their relentless march to the State wrestling tournament; and WHEREAS, at the State championship tournament, the Halls Red Devils secured a thrilling, one-point victory to earn the crown of State champions in the team dual event before going on to capture their first ever traditional tournament State title; and WHEREAS, leaving it all on the mat, the Red Devils collected a host of medals at the state tournament with David Cook taking sixth place in the 120 pound weight class; Jordan Sexton finishing in fourth place in the 126 pound weight class; Sam Hutchinson winning State runner-up in the 132 pound weight class; Harlen Hunley winning the State championship in the
138 pound weight class; Barrett Whaley taking fourth place in the 152 pound weight class; Briar SJR0600

Whaley finishing in third place in the 160 pound weight class; Kayden "Bull" Goodman finishing in fourth place in the 220 pound weight class; and Caleb Turner taking fifth place in the 285
pound weight class; and WHEREAS, the members of the Halls High School boys' wrestling team epitomize all that is good in today's student athletes, as they have achieved a premier level of success in
competition while exhibiting the highest degree of character in all aspects of life; and WHEREAS, the perseverance, determination, work ethic, and talent of this group of
young men not only made possible a championship season but also surely bode well for their future success; and WHEREAS, led by the 2023 Regional Coach of the Year, the Halls High School wrestling team enjoys the services of Coach Shannon Sayne, who has guided Halls High School to thirteen District team dual, ten Regional team dual, and eleven Regional traditional tournament championships during his sixteen-year tenure; and WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly find it appropriate to pause in their deliberations to acknowledge and applaud the members of the Halls High School boys'
wrestling team on this special occasion; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we hereby honor and commend the members and coaches of the Halls High School boys' wrestling team upon winning the TSSAA Division I,
Class A team dual and traditional wrestling state championships and extend to them our best wishes for every continued success in all their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
