By Stevens AN ACT to amend Chapter 202 of the Private Acts of 1984; as amended by Chapter 211 of the Private Acts of 1992;
and any other acts amendatory thereto, relative to Obion County.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. As of March 2026, the Obion County Highway Commission ceases to
exist. The Obion County Legislative Body shall not fill vacancies on the Commission that occur after the effective date of this act.
SECTION 2. The highway superintendent or his designee shall report to the Obion County Legislative Body at regularly scheduled meetings.
SECTION 3. After March 2026, Chapter 202 of the Private Acts of 1984 and Chapter
211 of the Private Acts of 1992, and all other acts amendatory thereto in conflict with this act,
are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. If a provision of this act or the application thereto to any person or
circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the act which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to that end, the provisions of this act are declared to be severable.
SECTION 5. This act shall have no effect unless it is approved by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the legislative body of Obion County at a meeting held within ninety (90) days of the passage of this act. Its approval or nonapproval shall be proclaimed by the presiding officer of the legislative body and certified to the secretary of state.
SECTION 6. For the purpose of approving or rejecting the provisions of this act, it shall be effective upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it. For all other purposes, it shall become effective as provided in Section 5.
