This bill requires a charter school to open and operate within the jurisdictional boundaries of the authorizing LEA or, if the charter school is authorized by the achievement school district or state board, in the school district in which the charter sponsor originally applied for a charter.
This bill also requires a charter sponsor to submit the physical address of a charter school to the chartering authority and the department of education at least 60 days prior to the opening of such school. If a physical location for the charter school has not been secured at least 60 days prior to opening, then the school must seek a delay in opening.

ON FEBRUARY 7, 2018, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1664, AS AMENDED.

AMENDMENT #1 deletes a reference to the achievement school district from this bill so that this bill will no longer require that, if a charter school is authorized by the achievement school district, the charter school must open and operated in the school district in which the charter sponsor originally applied for a charter.
