SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 338

A RESOLUTION to congratulate Damarien Yates of Fayette-Ware Comprehensive High School upon being named the TSSAA Class 3A Mr. Basketball.
WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should recognize those incredibly successful student athletes who have distinguished themselves as inspirational leaders among their peers; and WHEREAS, a statewide committee of sportswriters recently named Damarien Yates, a senior at Fayette-Ware Comprehensive High School, the TSSAA Class 3A Mr. Basketball,
based upon his outstanding performance on the hardwood during the 2022-2023 regular season; and WHEREAS, his superior academic record and upstanding character were also taken into consideration when the committee selected Mr. Yates as the winner of this prestigious award,
which honors the best Class 3A male basketball player in the entire State; and WHEREAS, the first Mr. Basketball in school history, Mr. Yates enjoyed a stellar season for Fayette-Ware, joining the school's 1,000 Point Club and earning District 15-3A MVP, District
15-3A Tournament MVP, and Region 8 All-Tournament honors; and WHEREAS, a 6-foot, 8-inch dominating presence on the basketball court, he is also a champion in the classroom, posting a 3.0 grade point average that will stand him in good stead as he plans to continue his basketball career at the collegiate level and pursue a degree in
sports management before embarking on his quest to play in the NBA; and WHEREAS, Damarien Yates is the devoted son of Corderro and Marqueatte Blade and the loving brother of MaTrevian, Zyion, and Caleah; and SJR0338

WHEREAS, Mr. Yates exemplifies the spirit, determination, and perseverance for which Tennesseans are notable, and he is richly deserving of our approbation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor and congratulate Damarien Yates of
Fayette-Ware Comprehensive High School upon being named the TSSAA Class 3A Mr.
Basketball and wish him much continued success both on and off the court.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
the appropriate clerk, the language appearing immediately following the State seal appear without House or Senate designation.
