SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 262

A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Carl William Jones of
Erwin.
WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of
the passing of Carl William Jones of Erwin; and WHEREAS, Carl Jones was an exemplary public servant and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, born on June 25, 1938, Carl Jones was the son of Richard and Bessie Belle Jones; and WHEREAS, in his early years, Mr. Jones became a respected member of the agricultural industry as the Erwin Future Farmers of America treasurer; and WHEREAS, over the years, Mr. Jones served as a member of several agricultural boards, including the Unicoi County and Washington County Board of Directors, the Unicoi County Soil Conservation Board, the Unicoi County Agricultural Advisory Committee, the Tennessee Farm Bureau Fruit and Vegetable Commodity Board, the American Farm Bureau Labor Board, and the Farm Credit Advisory Committee; and WHEREAS, a distinguished leader in his community, Mr. Jones was a faithful member of
the Unicoi County Republican Party, which recognized him with a lifetime achievement award;
he was a founding member of the Unicoi Volunteer Fire Department, and he was an active member of the Unicoi Ruritan Club and the Unicoi County Farm Bureau. He also served as a commissioner of the Unicoi Water Department for several years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones and his wife rendered valuable service to the state as local entrepreneurs; Mr. and Mrs. Jones, along with their lifelong friends and business partners Buckley and Ester Church, established Jones & Church Farms, Inc., in 1975 and grew the business to what is now a third-generation farming operation; and SJR0262

WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was also deeply devoted to his family, and he always endeavored to remain true to family values of the highest order; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Sue Jones; a daughter, Renea; a son-in-law, David Rogers; a grandson,
Nick (Holly) Rogers; a granddaughter, Laura Rogers; a great-grandson, Marsh Rogers; his siblings, Dorothy "Dot" Wiggand, Peggy (Lendell) Jeffers, Ann (Anderson) Pate, George
(Jolene) Jones, and Buddy (Shirley) Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends; and WHEREAS, in addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a brother,
James H. Jones; a brother-in-law, William "Bill" Wiggand; and a special nephew, Bryon Wiggand; and WHEREAS, a man of devout faith, Mr. Jones was a lifetime member of the Unicoi United Methodist Church; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jones leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity in public life, compassion and loyalty in private life, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that the members of this General Assembly should pause to
remember the bountiful life of this exceptional public servant and human being; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRTEENTH
GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Carl William Jones,
reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Jones.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy and upon proper request made to
