By Clemmons AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 4;
Title 9; Title 63; Title 68 and Title 71, relative to
funding for HIV prevention, testing, and treatment.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 68, Chapter 1, Part 1, is amended by
adding the following as a new section:
(a) The department of health shall actively seek and apply for federal grants and other available federal funds from the centers for disease control and prevention or other federal agencies, and utilize available federal funds for the purpose of implementing programs for the prevention, testing, and treatment of human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV) for residents of this state, including programs in partnership with community and non-profit partners.
(b) The department shall report by February 15, 2024, and on or before February 15 of each subsequent year, to the chairs of the health and welfare committee of the senate and the health committee of the house of representatives on funds the department applied for pursuant to subsection (a), recommendations for changes to
statutes or rules to implement programs as described in subsection (a), and benefits realized from programs as described in subsection (a). The report may be made in
conjunction with other reports required by law.
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
