ON MARCH 17, 2022, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #2 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1638, AS AMENDED.
AMENDMENT #2 rewrites this bill and revises provisions regarding the second floor of the state capitol building.
Under present law, it is the duty of the department of general services, through the commissioner acting with approval of the speaker of the senate and the speaker of the house, to take care of and preserve the second floor of the state capitol, including all chambers, galleries, offices, rooms, hallways, balconies, storage areas and other spaces therein, and all associated furniture and fixtures and to keep the same in good order. This amendment transfers the duty to take care of and preserve the second floor from the department to the speakers.
This amendment requires the department of general services to provide routine maintenance on and to the second floor of the state capitol only after providing notice of not less than 24 hours prior to beginning routine maintenance to the offices of the speakers. If emergency maintenance is required by the department on or to the second floor of the state capitol, the department must respond to the emergency and provide notice to the offices of the speakers as soon as practicable upon completion of the emergency maintenance.
This amendment requires the department to report to the speakers no later than January 15 of each year the facility management costs, including annual maintenance and upkeep costs, associated with the second floor of the state capitol for the prior year.
