This bill requires the Davidson County election commission to collaborate with the metro council, the secretary of state, and the county sheriff to:
(1) Establish one or more satellite voting locations at detention facilities within the county where eligible voters are confined or detained; and
(2) Register eligible voters detained at such facilities.
This bill authorizes the Davidson County election commission to set the hours and days when voting at a satellite voting location may be conducted, and to approve the presence of poll watchers at such locations.
Only a resident of Davidson County who is in custody at a county jail would be eligible to vote at a satellite voting location established under this bill.
This bill requires jails in Davidson County to:
(1) Provide a voter registration application to a person in custody at the jail who requests an application and who is determined to be eligible to vote; and
(2) Make available current resource materials, maintained by the county election commission and secretary of state, containing detailed information regarding the voting rights of a person with a criminal conviction in print.
The bill's provisions expire on December 31, 2022.
