Present law requires county election commissions to furnish for absentee voting at the commission office, locks and standard ballot boxes made of metal or such other material deemed as safe, durable, and secure by the coordinator of elections and the state election commission. Present law additionally requires that absentee ballot boxes have at least two hasps for locks, be equipped with baffles so that ballots cannot be removed without unlocking the box, and be affixed with two numbered seals that may only be broken to count the votes.
This bill authorizes county election commissions to place additional absentee ballot boxes within the county at locations as determined by the state election commission. Any such additionally placed absentee ballot boxes must comply with the present law security requirements for absentee ballot boxes.
