A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE NEWBERRY ACADEMY GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO HONOR THEM FOR WINNING THE SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A GIRLS VOLLEYBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is proud to recognize the Newberry Academy girls volleyball team for winning the South Carolina Independent School Association Class A Girls Volleyball State Championship on October 26, 2020 at Ben Lippen High School; and

Whereas, this historic win marks the program's first state championship in school history; and

Whereas, in the championship game, Newberry Academy defeated Patrick Henry by a score of 25-21; and

Whereas, with an exceptional season overall, the team finished the season with a record of 16-3; and

Whereas, the Newberry Academy girls volleyball team has flourished under the leadership and guidance of Head Coach Travis Gilliam; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate appreciate the pride and recognition that the Newberry Academy girls volleyball team has brought to its school and community and look forward to a future filled with further accomplishments by the team and its talented athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Newberry Academy girls volleyball team, coaches, and school officials on an outstanding season and honor them for winning the South Carolina Independent School Association Class A Girls Volleyball State Championship.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Newberry Academy girls volleyball team, Head Coach Travis Gilliam, and Headmaster Nicole May.
