This bill amends several sections of the General Laws related to workers' compensation benefits. It requires employers to promptly provide injured employees with reasonable medical services, including surgery, dental, optical, and other treatments, as well as nurse and hospital services, medicines, crutches, and apparatus. The employer is also required to provide all necessary medical appliances and apparatus, except for hearing aids or other amplification devices.

The bill also states that employees are not entitled to compensation if they were gainfully employed or capable of gainful employment at an average weekly wage equal to or higher than their pre-injury average weekly wage. If an employer or insurer makes an overpayment of compensation benefits, they are entitled to a credit for that overpayment against future compensation benefits payable to the employee. Employees are also not entitled to compensation if they were imprisoned as a result of a criminal offense.

The bill also specifies the additional compensation that should be paid for specific injuries. The weekly payment for these injuries is equal to one-half of the injured employee's average weekly earnings, with a minimum of $45 and a maximum of $90. For injuries that occur on or after January 1, 2012, the weekly payment is increased to a maximum of $180 and a minimum of $90. The payment is made in a one-time payment, unless the parties agree otherwise. The section also lists the specific injuries and the corresponding period for which the additional compensation should be paid.
