This bill, if enacted, would amend Chapter 2-15 of the General Laws to allow the department of environmental management (DEM) to manage non-native and invasive aquatic plants in freshwater areas. The DEM would be able to use methods such as aerial spraying and removal to inhibit the growth and spread of these plants. The bill also states that no damages would be awarded to owners for the loss or destruction of these plants, as they are considered a public menace. However, financial assistance may still be provided to owners under specific legislation. The bill would take effect upon passage.
