The purpose of this appropriation is to develop a property in East Providence into 160 affordable apartments. The development will also include an early learning center on the ground floor, which will be leased to a qualified nonprofit operator to provide high-quality childcare. The goal of this project is to address Rhode Island's affordable housing crisis and provide housing for vulnerable populations, including youth aging out of foster care and families at risk of or involved with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). The appropriation will be drawn from the treasury and authorized by the state controller upon receipt of properly authenticated vouchers.
