This bill amends Chapter 23-6.3 of the General Laws to allow licensed pharmacists to prescribe, dispense, or administer HIV prevention drugs. The pharmacist must follow rules and regulations set by the department of health. The pharmacist may prescribe the drugs if the patient is HIV negative, does not report any signs or symptoms of acute HIV infection, and does not report taking any contraindicated medication. The pharmacist must provide counseling to the patient on the use of the drugs and notify the patient that they must see a primary care provider for subsequent prescriptions. The pharmacist must also document the services provided and maintain records of the drugs furnished to each patient. The department of health will establish drug therapy protocols for prescribing, dispensing, and administering the drugs.

Additionally, this bill amends Section 23-6.3-2 of the General Laws to define certain terms related to HIV/AIDS.
