This bill amends Section 42-63.1-14 of the General Laws in Chapter 42-63.1 entitled "Tourism and Development." The amendment allows all hosting platforms that collect and remit sales and hotel taxes to offer short-term rental units. It also confirms that cities and towns have the authority to regulate the zoning of short-term rental units. The bill requires short-term rental properties listed on third-party hosting platforms to be registered with the Department of Business Regulation. The registration must include information such as the owner's contact information, the address of the rental property, and the intended use of the property. The Department of Business Regulation will create an online database to store all registered short-term rental units. Failure to register may result in civil fines ranging from $250 to $1,000. The bill takes effect upon passage.
