This bill amends Chapter 16-24 of the General Laws to require public school districts to have special education local advisory committees. The district must post a link to the committee's website or provide contact information for the committee on the district's website. The district must also post or list the dates of committee meetings during the school year. All districts must maintain and promote active committees, meaning they must meet at least four times per year. If a district does not have an active committee, a parent or guardian can notify the superintendent, who will investigate and take steps to make the committee active. Additionally, at meetings involving a review, modification, or continuation of a student's individual education program or 504 plan, the district must provide a written notice to the parent or guardian that includes information about the committee and its scheduled meetings. This act would take effect upon passage.
