This bill makes several amendments to the General Laws regarding temporary disability insurance. It updates definitions, changes the calculation of taxable wages and employee contributions, adjusts benefit rates and allowances, and includes provisions for partial unemployment due to sickness. The bill also establishes a temporary caregiver insurance program within the state's temporary disability insurance program, providing wage replacement benefits to workers who take time off to care for a seriously ill family member. It expands the coverage for temporary caregiver benefits to include siblings, grandchildren, and care recipients, and increases the maximum number of weeks for temporary caregiver benefits from six to twelve weeks. The bill also proposes an increase in the dependent's allowances. If passed, the bill would go into effect on January 1, 2024.
