This bill amends Section 24-8-11 of the General Laws in Chapter 24-8, which pertains to the construction and maintenance of state roads. The amendment adds language to authorize the department of transportation to beautify and maintain the area within the limits of a road by planting trees, shrubs, and other landscaping. The cost of this work will be paid from funds appropriated for highway purposes. The state controller is authorized to draw orders for payment upon receipt of proper vouchers approved by the director of transportation.

Additionally, the bill requires the department of transportation to establish a schedule for landscaping and mowing of lawns on state roads. This schedule must be provided to the department of public works in any city or town where the state road is located. The bill will take effect upon passage.
