This bill amends Chapter 16-24 of the General Laws to require public school districts to establish and maintain special education local advisory committees. The district must post a link to the committee's website or provide contact information for the committee on the district's website. The district must also post or list the dates of committee meetings on the website. Additionally, the bill requires districts to hold at least four committee meetings per year, with one meeting allowed to take place during the summer if the district operates an extended school year program for students with disabilities. If a district does not have an active committee, a parent or guardian can notify the superintendent, who must investigate and take steps to make the committee active. The bill also requires districts to provide written notice to parents or guardians of disabled students at meetings involving the review, modification, or continuation of the student's individual education program or 504 plan, informing them of the committee's contact information and meeting dates. This act would take effect upon passage.
