     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:
1              SECTION 1. Section 31-3.2-6 of the General Laws in Chapter 31-3.2 entitled
2    "Snowmobiles and Recreational Vehicles" is hereby amended to read as follows:
3              31-3.2-6. Rules and regulations.
4              (a) With a view of achieving maximum use of snowmobiles and/or recreational vehicles,
5    the director of natural resources shall adopt rules and regulations for the following purposes:
6              (1) Registration of snowmobiles and recreational vehicles and display of registration
7    numbers.
8              (2) Use of snowmobiles and recreational vehicles insofar as game and fish resources are
9    affected.
10             (3) Use of snowmobiles and recreational vehicles on public lands and waters under the
11   jurisdiction of the director and shall by January 1, 2024, designate areas where operating and/or
12   driving a recreational vehicle shall be permitted. Designated areas shall include trails and open
13   spaces.
14             (4) Uniform signs to be used by the state, counties, cities and towns, which are necessary
15   or desirable to control, direct, or regulate the operation and use of snowmobiles and recreational
16   vehicles.
17             (5) Specifications relating to snowmobiles and recreational vehicles’ mufflers.
18             (b) The administrator of the division of motor vehicles may adopt rules and regulations not
1   inconsistent with this chapter in the manner provided by this title regulating the use of snowmobiles
2   and recreational vehicles on streets and highways.
3           SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

1           This act would provide that the director of department of environment management shall
2   by January 1, 2024 designate areas where operating recreational vehicles shall be permitted.
3           This act would take effect upon passage.
